The Challenge
The Context
When VJR Consulting began partnering with Ms. Christian and her team at Achievement Prep, the school was navigating a significant transition. Ms. Christian had stepped into the Principal role while the Assistant Principal position remained vacant. Leadership capacity needed to be strengthened quickly to ensure student outcomes continued to improve and teachers felt fully supported.
At the same time, there was a clear desire to deepen the coaching practice of instructional leaders and make weekly data meetings more strategic and impactful. The goal was not simply to hold meetings, but to use scholar work and data to drive instructional decisions that would accelerate learning.
Achievement Prep chose to partner with VJR because of Dr. Riley's reputation as a leader who delivers personalized, customized support grounded in real school experience. He was known for bringing practical tools, adaptable systems, and an approachable leadership style that resonated with both staff and senior leaders.

The VJR Approach
The Engagement
The scope of work between VJR Consulting Firm and Achievement Prep was both strategic and hands-on. During a period of leadership transition, Ms. Christian remained committed to maintaining academic rigor while strengthening instructional coaching across the building. VJR provided quarterly on-site visits and bi-weekly leadership coaching, focused on:
• Developing coaches and strengthening the coaching of coaches
• Leveraging scholar work more consistently
• Building stronger, more focused weekly data meetings
• Creating systems that increased capacity across the leadership team
Beyond systems and structures, the engagement also centered on culture. Ms. Christian was intentional about building a school environment that was supportive, joyful, and relentlessly focused on student learning. VJR supported her in aligning leadership practices with that vision.
While Ms. Christian entered the partnership with high expectations, the impact exceeded them. In addition to implementing effective systems, she described feeling affirmed and supported throughout the process. The coaching was not just technical. It was thoughtful, responsive, and grounded in a deep understanding of school leadership.
The Experience
Ms. Christian noted that every member of the VJR team demonstrated a lived understanding of the daily realities of running a school. There was never a challenge that went unaddressed. Whether the need was a new system, a practical tool, or strategic troubleshooting, VJR provided clear and actionable solutions.
What stood out most was the partnership itself. The work was not prescriptive or rigid. It was collaborative, adaptive, and grounded in what would actually move the school forward.
The Impact
Building a Culture of Feedback
One of Ms. Christian's primary goals was to build a strong adult culture rooted in feedback and continuous improvement. Through her work with VJR, that vision became reality.
A shared belief emerged across the staff. Ms. Christian describes the evolution:

The results were measurable. During the partnership, Achievement Prep improved from a Level 4 to a Level 2 on the ASPIRE framework, with 1 representing the highest performance and 5 the lowest. This shift represented significant academic gains in a relatively short period of time.
The improvement was not accidental. Stronger systems led to stronger coaching. Stronger coaching led to improved instruction. And improved instruction led to better student outcomes.
Long-Term Value
The mindset across Achievement Prep has fundamentally shifted. Leveraging scholar data, implementing clear systems, and consistently monitoring progress are now embedded in the school's day-to-day practice.
The work is sustainable because it is owned by the leadership team. Everyone is aligned around a shared goal and equipped with the tools to pursue it.
Ms. Christian has shared that she is not sure she would have achieved the same level of impact without the support of VJR Consulting Firm, and she is grateful she did not have to find out. She rates the partnership a 10 out of 10 and looks forward to continued collaboration.

"Working with my coach has helped me deepen my understanding of what it means to effectively execute day-to-day in schools. The team at VJR has a tool for any challenge your school may face. I haven’t come across a problem that they haven't had a tool for. I’ve experienced a great level of support and thought partnership."
